Reclaiming the Earth: A futuristic vision of the Inglewood Oil Field
Location: Los Angeles, CA

In response to California’s recent oil extraction phase-out initiatives in tandem with residents’ concerns over exposure to harmful petroleum pollution, the project seeks to remediate the Inglewood Oil Field, transforming it into a regional hub that champions regeneration, resilience, and community. Over a century of oil drilling has prevented development along the hills, as the landscape has been dominated by active and idle oil wells and other industrial equipment. Drilling operations occur only a thousand feet away from residential homes prompting community leaders and organizations to advocate for environmental justice. The design proposes methods of remediation while providing communities in Los Angeles with new recreational and educational opportunities, event spaces, tranquil gardens, and a greenway connection stretching to the Pacific Ocean.
