Renewing the Wild : A perception on the existing natural environment and the technological future
Location: Santa Margarita, CA
The Carrizo Plain, a vast and ecologically sensitive semi-arid grassland in Central California, is home to endangered species, remarkable biodiversity, and the iconic San Andreas Fault. This largely undisturbed natural space presents unique challenges and opportunities for integrating renewable energy development. This project seeks to design a landscape that harnesses wind and solar energy efficiently while enhancing the ecological and cultural integrity of the plain. Drawing on theories such as Ecological Design and Landscape Urbanism, the project emphasizes adaptive reuse, ecological restoration, and multifunctional spaces that restore habitats, minimize human impact, and foster a deeper connection between visitors and the landscape. By integrating renewable energy infrastructure in ways that are both functional and aesthetically engaging, this design aims to educate the public on sustainability, preserve the area’s fragile ecosystem, and contribute to California’s clean energy future.
