Adapting Adventure: Outdoor Recreation at the Face of a Changing Climate
Location: Nederland, CO
The outdoor recreation industry urgently needs innovative solutions to sustain both economic viability and environmental health—especially in Nederland, Colorado, where the local economy depends on a stable climate. Adapting Adventure introduces a year-round, low-impact ecotourism model that balances sustainability, economic growth, and community engagement. As rising temperatures shorten winter seasons, maintaining operations becomes increasingly difficult. By integrating sustainable design solutions, this project minimizes environmental harm while expanding recreation beyond winter. It provides a lasting vision for outdoor recreation—one that fosters stability in a setting defined by change, ensuring connection to place, environmental health, and economic resilience for years to come.
