The Duwamish River, once a thriving landscape of tidal marshes and forests, was forcibly straightened and paved to make way for industrial development. Neighboring communities suffer from increased adverse health effects and disproportionate access to green space. Chemicals have permeated aquatic wildlife, and ecological habitat has been replaced by been replaced by concrete.
